SONGS SONGS SONGS Join three songwriters (and dear friends) for an afternoon worshipping at the altar of song. Drawing inspiration from icons ranging from PJ Harvey to Hank Williams; Blasko to the Beatles, no emotional stone will be left unturned, no joke uncracked. Julia Johnson (Gadigal/SYD) https://www.instagram.com/juliajohnsonmusic Julia Johnson’s music career began when she applied to play at her local folk festival because she was too broke to buy a ticket. Since then she has continued to build her folk-tinged music universe, playing across Australia and gaining comparisons to Florence Welch, Joni Mitchell, and even a ‘treacherous mountain river’. On stage, Johnson’s warm and unpredictable banter usher you between songs so deftly, you’ll almost forgive her for singing you through the emotional wringer. Cathy Diver (Nipaluna/TAS) https://www.instagram.com/cathy.diver Like any good backyard chemist, Cathy Diver specialises in cooking the world around her into something fizzy, novel or transcendental. She’s swimming pool sunny, occasionally harrowing, with a psychedelic bent. Since releasing her debut album Everything’s a Car in February 2025, Cathy’s music has soundtracked a Netflix series, been featured by community radio and street press, and landed her on stage at A Festival Called Panama. “Utterly magnificent” - Tim Rogers Jethro Pickett (Nipaluna/TAS) https://www.instagram.com/jethropickett Maverick songwriter/producer Jethro Pickett crafts beguiling, off-kilter songs, moored by charming melodies. Sydney Morning Herald describes his songs as “delightful, rollicking alt-country gems” but Happy mag says they’re “Slightly creepy, strangely soothing, and entirely enthralling.” Which review is right? You’ll have to come and decide for yourself. Doors: 5:30pm Music from 6pm - 9pm
